  2. Easter Fun

    April 22, 2011 by sunrisesister

Happy easter to you all! (If you celebrate it!) We don’t do much, really, apart from enjoying some extra bonus time with family and friends.

    IMG_4196 IMG_4184 IMG_4194

Armed with lots of food dye and vinegar, I boiled up some eggs ready for the kids to decorate and dye..

    Into the dye they go..

    And out..

    IMG_4225 IMG_4228

    Lots of fun!

And it would be just *wasteful* to pour all that dye down the drain, so..

I am having a fun time playing with a friend’s camera on loan to me, so here is an obligatory bathroom mirror self portrait (man, my mirror needs cleaning!)

The day began well, too, with a delicious brekkie cooked by the fella. Multigrain english muffins topped with sauteed spinach, smoked salmon, and lemon and black pepper, with some thyme mushrooms on the side.

Happy easter! Don’t eat too much chocolate!

And this month’s lucky dip is…….

    CRAZY ZAUBERBALL!!!!!!

But I am a little socked out, so this will be something a little different.. something that will show off the CRAZINESS! An Augustine Shawlette.. a triangular karius shaped clapotis redux. Win.

It’s been a week of quick n dirty FO’s.. here is another one I whipped up to go as a gift..

    document_upload22646-2_medium

A hyperbolic scrubbie in Anchor Magicline. I love these.. they are quick, look like some kind of weird coral brain, and are great for the bath/shower, or in a scratchy acrylic, as a pot scrubber. This will be going to someone interstate..

  4. Hiatus, Again.

    March 16, 2011 by sunrisesister

Well, here I go again, under the knife yet AGAIN. My arm healed so well after the surgery in January that I was swiftly put back onto the admissions list, and I got the magic call a few days ago saying it’s all happening! This friday I will be getting the same carpal tunnel release on the left arm, so there will be no crafting for at least a couple of weeks.. boo!

So of course, I had to finish up what was on the wheel, at least.. right?

Naptime Angorino Finished plying, with leftovers :( 2ply Not bad

This was my first attempt at ‘fractal spinning’ – basically you split the fibre down the middle, spin each half onto a bobbin, and then ply the two together. The idea is you get similar colours, with small amounts of ‘gradient’ overlap. What I managed to do, somehow, is to end up with leftovers. *golf clap*

But overall, very happy. It’s smooshy soft Ixchel Angorino – merino/angora blend. It’s about a sport weight, but I will check when it’s been washed, whacked, and I have bought a WPI tool..

In other news.. remember these gorgeous socks?

Line up Last ditch rescue effort

I bought a set of sock blockers, soaked the everloving crap out of the socks, and SWORE they would fit.

    They didnt.

    I cried.

I spent most of my saturday painstakingly picking apart the cast on row, and re-binding off in a looser fashion, to see if that would save them.

    It didnt.

    Then I got angry.

And then I frogged them. No way am I sacrificing my first ever Wollmeise to something I cant wear!

    A mess.

Blurry pic, apologies. I also started this. It’s a Hemlock Ring Blanket, a vintage 1942 doily pattern that has been adapted to a chunkier wool. This is BWM 12 ply. It will be an ongoing project, and is a baby blanket for my friend’s first baby due this year :) I am trying to earn my honorary aunty rights!

I was going to try to keep up with my Personal Sock Club, but this month’s instalment will have to wait till I am knitting again.. Rainbow EGMTK

So, that’s all my crafting for a couple of weeks, at least :) Back soon!

  5. WIP: Nutkin

    February 28, 2011 by sunrisesister

Something happens to me when I see a sock pattern I love instantly. And then I see that I have the exact recommended yarn. In almost the exact colour. I go a little giddy. This yarn has been ‘marinading’ in the stash for a while now, since I scored it in destash from Tara. In the ball it looks a little muddy, but when knitted up, something happens..

    Flash on

    IMG_0379

Flash off. It’s a hard colour to photograph in this light.

    IMG_0377

    Flash on, again.

The yarn is the famous Wollmeise, which is surprisingly splitty to knit with, a little overly twisty, very cottony to feel, but drop-dead-bloody-gorgeous to knit. I see why it’s so habit forming. I am pleased that popping my WM cherry has been such a positive experience..

But, it’s not all rosy. One sock down, and I cant get it on over my ankle. No, I dont have cankles, it’s just very tight. But all is not lost – it will be getting a soak, a blocking, and see if the yarn doesnt have a bit more ‘give’ in store.

The pattern is Nutkin, a free and wonderfully easy to memorise pattern. I made a few mods, which I will blog about when they are done.

Tomorrow is March 1.. that means it’s time to select the next personal sock club instalment! weeeee!
