  1. Noro Disappointment

    January 29, 2012 by sunrisesister

Last week, a friend and I did something a little naughty, and a little fun, and treated ourselves to a little yarn fix. These holidays are dragging, and with 8 kids between us, this was a great little escape.

I picked up a skein of Ella Rae lace merino (not really lace, though, more a 4 ply.) and these two balls of Noro Silk Garden. They are wonderful contrasting colours, and I bought them specifically to make the Noro Stripe Scarf for my lovely new husband. I cast on a couple of days later, only to discover that they are TOTALLY different weights :( One is almost a bulky, and the other barely a DK. I could really kick myself for not checking in the shop, knowing Noro’s reputation. The pattern really does need a consistency in thickness of the yarn, to make the stripes seamless, so I will figure out what to do with it/buy a different ball at some point. It’s going into the sin-bin/naughty corner for a bit.

I have higher hopes for this.

  2. FO: Possum for a Bilby

These socks were a joy to knit. The yarn is squishy, soft, and yet somehow cool to the touch. A little fluffier than my usual yarn choice.

Yarn: Waikiwi sock yarn – possum, merino, alpaca nylon blend

Needles: 2.75mm circular needle (Addi turbo)

    Pattern: made up.

  4. FO: Spin, Little Speckled Hen

    September 12, 2011 by sunrisesister

This braid seemed to go on FOR EVAR.

But it turns out, that’s because I cannot read, or count, and it was actually 150 grams, not 100! It was a club shipment that I scored in a destash.

So I had managed to spin it very fine, and decided even navajo plying it would give me a decent amount. I was right.

Whoah. But look at the colours!

My spinning has improved even more, and I am seeing that my plying is also coming along nicely. I dont over-spin as much, and the results are smooshy yarn :)

    Fabulous :)
