This yarn is my own handspun, a navajo-plied polwarth from Southern Cross Fibre. Delicious to spin, and the resulting colour striping was worth it – it’s knitting up a treat. A tad overspun, still, but I am still learning my new wheel.

I might do a red one after this. Knitting yarn spun with your own hands is most satisfying, though.

Australia’s last wool combing plant, run by Fletcher International Exports alongside its abattoir in Dubbo, will be shut down over the next month.Company principal, Roger Fletcher, said it was also one of the last wool scouring operations in Australia.

He said the company could no longer compete with topmaking operations in low cost countries such as China.

The daily wage of a worker at the Dubbo plant would pay for about 50 workers in India or Bangladesh.

What will this mean for the Australian fibre industry?

Heeeeey long time no blog, eh hi all! I have spent the last month recovering and working hard in physio to heal from a herniated disc in my back, as well as surgery on my jaw in September. I spent some time in hospital to get the pain levels under control. Lots of pain, lots of tears, and lots of relying on friends and family to help with the baby, kids, and household. I thank you, all of you, for your patience and kindness xx

There has been knitting, mostly monogamous, too, on a beautiful rainbow kauni scarf. More on that later. I did compete in the Ravelwealth games, big fell over in my first event! Info and photos to come

No spinning for me, for the near future, but knitting has kept me sane for the last few weeks.

Onwards and upwards, or at the very least, forwards, slowly, and slightly crooked all the same.
