  1. FO: Hine

    January 29, 2012 by sunrisesister

This is a beautiful knit :)

    BWM Cameo 8ply

Step one, take some smooshy wool/angora blend from the BWM back room.

Step two: find a gorgeous, girly, easy pattern like Hine from Kelly Brooker (this was gifted to me at xmas by Deb – thanks Deb!)

Step three, smoosh, admire. But there is more. This will be dip-dyed, blocked, and buttoned. A perfect top to go over a long sleeve cotton tee in the cooler months!

    Sticks: 4mm addi click.

    Yarn: BWM Cameo 8ply

Mods: Knitted size 4, but lace panel to size 5.

More pics to follow when it’s looking a little more colourful!

  2. 8 Months On

    May 17, 2011 by sunrisesister

This week is a big one. It was our anniversary on Monday, Tille turned 16 months old yesterday, and it’s my birthday this weekend. But my mind is elsewhere..

A pretty non-descript photo, right? Well, yeah. It’s 8 months since my spine decided to gang up against me, and I was left bedridden, in and out of hospital, reliant on heavy pain medication and friends to (literally) pick me up, and then using a walking frame to get around. The good news is, 8 months later I am functioning again as normal, and I am oh so very grateful for this. Mobility is something I dont take for granted any more.

I have never experienced pain like that before (and I have had 4 kids!) and I dont care to again, thanks!

  3. Arwen, Modelled!

    January 2, 2011 by sunrisesister

A belated merry solstice, happy christmas and a very happy new year to you all! Boy, was I happy to give 2010 a kick in the pants as it left! I even managed to sneak in a last FO before the year was out; another licorice allsort cardi, but in a bigger size. The freaky weather here continues, hot, cold, and hot, and then cold again. But lots of rain, means our long and awful drought is OVER. Yes, officially.

It seems absurd to be dressing a baby in a knitted skirt and tights in SUMMER, but it was practically chilly yesterday, and I took the opportunity to try out my fabulous new IXUS camera. Here is the Arwen skirt, in the fleshy flesh!

Yes, that is an 11 month old, walking, running, talking, and flirting. She kills me.

  4. WIP: Kauni Baktus

    October 20, 2010 by sunrisesister

Sometimes, the only thing you can do to stave off the blues, when going thru tough times, is to knit a rainbow.

Miles and miles of garter stitch. Simple, soothing, and therapeutic. Nothing to count, nothing to tink back, just lots of colour changing to keep things entertaining.

I was intending to make a clapotis out of this yarn, but I started and quickly changed my mind. I only have one ball, and while 150g gives you great milage in a 5ply, its not quite enough to do the yarn’s incredible colour justice. Until I saw Katinspace’s beautiful kauni baktus, and I confess, I had to make it :) (flattery?!)

The great part of this scarf is that it will be worn lots, with anything. Black top with rainbow? Epic win! My baby girl haas been watching me knit this for a couple of weeks now, and has been grabbing the working yarn and ball whenever she can. Can you blame her? Fuzzy highland wool is more exciting than her boring old rainbow play silk!

It should be finished today, and it’s destined for a good soften in some wool wash or conditioner (it really needs it) and then some better photos and blocking.

  5. Kind Knitterly Karma

    August 22, 2010 by sunrisesister

This week, I have been making the parcel postie earn his wage. A couple of fibre purchases (There’s no point letting poor innocent fibre sit languishing in someone’s shop, now is there?) and a couple of lovely surprises!

First up, a parcel from the lovely Donna at Randomknits. She knitted a gorgeous little cardi for Tille, out of the SOFTEST hand dyed sock yarn EVER. Just adorable, and perfect for spring over a little dress or top.

Oh, and y’know… just this ole thing. A skein of Plucky Knitter MCN!! Can you say smooshy? Yes. Excessive fondling has been had. Thank you Donna :) It truly brightened up an awful week!

And then, I got a Rav PM from someone saying ‘Have you gotten the parcel I sent yet?’ Huh? OH WAIT, this was from a lady to whom I sent a spare part-ball of discontinued Bendigo Rustic, so she could finish a vest for her son. I’d totally forgotten, and it was more a Random Act of Kindess on my part, because I love helping out a Knitter In Kneed. Heh.

What was in the parcel? A thank you note, a pic of her son wearing his vest (Adorable!) and a knitted hat for Tille :) So sweet. Thank you!

AND another surprise parcel find in the PO box, another bag full of clothes from Dr Cris for Tille (we are in hand me down heaven) and the crochet hook I left at her place. It’s like Christmas!

See, I always knew knitters are kind folk, but this week has been proof. Thank you, lovely knitterly friends. I hope I can pay it forward soon..
