  2. Mother's Day

    May 11, 2010 by sunrisesister

The big 3 kids weren’t home, so it was a bit of a quiet Mother’s Day. No cold tea and burnt toast in bed for me :( It’s amazing to think that exactly a year ago, I had horrible morning sickness!

We dont do the mother’s day thing much, but this year I did get something I really really wanted.. a cook/frypan/banquet/slow cooker thingamybob. I really wanted a slow cooker, but with a big family and a CRAP stove, this is ideal!

A pan filled with choc and goodies!

    mmmmmmmm cooking.

My first dish, Butter chicken. I treated myself to this book in anticipation. This recipe is a KNOCKOUT. Clean plates all rounds, and seconds and thirds devoured. Awful pic, great curry.

The pan is wonderful – max high sear is VERY hot, and the element is lovely an even. Apparently you can cook nearly anything in it, so I am looking forward to using it instead of the crap stove/oven for most meals!

  3. Nappy Dilemma

    November 21, 2009 by sunrisesister

So cloth nappy storage can be a challenge, especially when you have um.. a few, and also if you live in a small house, like we do. I decided the terry flats would be best off in a nappy hanger, but a brief look in the local shops made me realise that these things just arent in demand any more!

    So I made my own!

    upcycled! back
    nappy stacker!

    Empty, appliqued back, and filled!

Ok, so I cheated. No, I recycled. Actually, I upcycled. My gran sent me a gorgeous appliqued drawstring bag yonks ago, but it was sitting in my wardrobe, not being used for much. I thought hey, why not? I unpicked the sides, and the lining, made a cut up the middle and reformed the drawstring area to hold a coathanger. Which is totally replaceable. Turned it inside out, stuck an enviro-bag plastic base in to keep it’s shape, and VOILA!!

    Stuff you shops! *shakes fist!*

  4. BWM End of Season Sale

More on that yarn splurge I confessed to, back then, before I Got Angry At Apple.

Some 8 Ply cottons.. chosen by Maya (pink!) Me (yellow) and needful lust for something discontinued (red)

3 for dyeing, and one for swatching for T’s bridesmaid’s capelets. The Ruby just wasnt quite the right red..

    And a smidge of this.

BWM end of season sale is still on till 11 December, so go buy some yarn!

  5. Sometimes

    November 7, 2009 by sunrisesister

Sometimes, you just have to do something yourself, to make sure it gets done.

Yes, I’m typing on my iMac. Which has a new hard drive installed in it. Which took 20 minutes. Well, 10, plus a couple of trips to find the right screwdriver head, and the ‘Black Stick’ nylon tool we use to pry Apple machines open with. N has repaired dozens of these things, and guess what, the HDD he removed was fried. And the case HAD NOT been cleaned of dust, like I was told on the phone.

$109 out of pocket. But guess what, I didnt have to drive to Doncaster. Again.

<sarcasm> So, should I deduct that from my Apple Care price?  </sarcasm>
