  1. Big Button

    January 20, 2009 by sunrisesister

There is a hat called the Robin’s Egg Blue Hat, that I have been wanting to make for ages. I dont quite know what yarn to make it with yet, but this is the button I picked out yesterday..

It got to 40 degrees (104.5F) today, so I did little more than lay on the bed, under the fan, and crochet and watch tv.

But I did get a delivery… My first ever fibre club, from Ewe Give Me The Knits! I signed up back in December, and this is the first of 3 shipments..

Tsk tsk! I am not going to upload pics of the fibre colourway just yet, so the others waiting to get theirs dont have the suprise spoiled for them..

The kids spent some of their money yesterday at Spotlight, and have being doing some more beading. I made up a few stitchmarkers..

The scarf is finished, but just needs blocking… cute huh?

Ok, the so-called ‘cool change’ is meant to be sweeping thru.. so off I go again!

  2. Hot, Again

    January 20, 2009 by sunrisesister

So, it’s that time again. Time for it to be 30 degrees at 9am, 35 degrees shortly after, and totally impossible to do anything. This low humidity and dry, hot, northern winds just zap all the energy I have, and at the same time, make it impossible to sleep. We are all sitting in front of the air cooler, trying not to kill one another!

I also managed to screw up the first 2 rows of a hat last night (hello! I mean how hard is k2 p2?) so decided to sit down with my new Happy Hooker book and do some new crochet stitches.

They are very fast to make, and I did 6 in less than an hour.. Lots of fun. When they are all done, they will be a Garden Scarf – Maya has already claimed it as her own, but I wonder if there is an adult out there someone who is game to wear it?

Back to the couch I go, to sip cold water and try and steer clear of the dizziness.

  3. I'd Forgotten

    January 16, 2009 by sunrisesister

When you get into a flat, flat, slump, you forget just how good you can feel when you just break out and do something. So after a morning of feeling Like Shit, I finally plucked up the energy to get out, and met Kelli at Borders Books for some retail therapy. I had $70 in free vouchers to blow, so….. I bought some books.

    IMG_2409

From the top down..2 Balls of Prism soy/wool yarn from Lincraft; Knockdown Knits rollerderby inspired patterns (badass); The Happy Hooker crochet book; Simple Knits for Cherished Babies; The Dice Man (remember him? the guy that made all life choices according to a roll of the dice?); The Five Love Languages, that I have been meaning to read for yonks; The Dressmaker; The Time Travellers Wife; Eleven Hours; A Thousand Splendid Suns; Brideshead Revisited – which I am re-watching on ABC atm.. LOVE it!; And some Personal Porn, Long Way Down by Ewan Macgregor (Porn Porn Porn!) and Charley Boorman.

I havent bought books for myself in ages, so while this was a MAJOR splurge, I am glad I didnt waste my vouchers for once.

Kelli and I had a good wander around, had a cuppa and a gossip, and we left feeling a little refreshed. A yarn/book/friend fix will do that to you.

Oh, and I may have accidentally purchased my very first Malabrigo yarn from Yarn and Kisses. Well, the sale was finishing today and it was $13 a skein and and and… ah, fuck it. Judge me all you like :) When we are in our 80s and are complaining that we never got to buy a house of our own, it’s cos I bought so much damn yarn. Ah well.

  4. FO: Grnny's Bag

    January 3, 2009 by sunrisesister

    Finally knit something this week!

It’s a strong market bag for my gran. She was lusting after another one I had knit for the kids, so I thought she might like one of her own. They are handy for shopping – they hold an insane amount of stuff at a time! Made from Lion Brand Cotton 10Ply. I made a fair few changes to this pattern as I went – including crocheting the base instead of the fiddly base involving DPNs and swearing.

We are off camping tomorrow! We are all looking forward to some fresh air, camp food, bike riding, toasting marshmallows, knitting in the sunshine, etc

  5. The Toy Society

    December 30, 2008 by sunrisesister

It’s always heaps of fun to make a gift for someone, even more so for a stranger, or someone you dont know IRL. It’s like sending out good karma. Who doesn’t love receiving a handmade toy?!

Kelli sent me a link to the toy society, where members make a small toy, and ‘drop’ it somewhere in public, with a tag and note from the maker. An unsuspecting person finds it, and rehomes it, and reports back to the blog.

So I got to thinking, this could seriously fuel my Amigurumi obsession! I *did* end up getting that seriously cute book (and some yarn!) so I am looking forward to printing out my tags, and making a toy to drop somewhere. I could even get the kids making some little things!
