  1. Sunday Greenery

    March 27, 2011 by sunrisesister

    Fuschia

Today N and I drove to a few different wedding venues and parks to look for somewhere to hold our wedding later this year. Some of them were a little trecherous because of steep hills etc, but after a couple of hours, we found The One :)

It’s truly stunning, and after some sustinence, and baby’s nap, we went back for a better look.

The wedding diet is going great, why do you ask?

Autumn is also a beautiful time in our own garden. Figs are ripening, maple trees are turning a thousand shades of red and yellow, and these beautiful little flowers greet us near the front door.

    I grow pretty stuff.

Autumn really is my favourite season in Melbourne!

  2. Christmas Wheel

    January 3, 2011 by sunrisesister

So among many many other amazing gifts that I received at Christmas, this has to be the biggie.. mainly because it was such a huge surprise! I was planning to buy a wheel soon, but probably after the new year. It’s a pricey item, and there were other priorities! N was very sneaky and liased with the lovely Mandie from Ewe Give Me The Knits, and this is what I opened on Christmas morning..

Yep, my very own Majacraft Pioneer! I am totally in love with it – the smoothness, the double treadle, the delta flyer, everything. I did a test spin that night, and straight off, it was a dream.

The best bit is that it’s SO light, and I can pick it up and put it on top of my stash shelves, out of the way of toddling babies and curious children. And it’s transportable to spin meets! woo!

My fibre stash has grown a little lately; some has been purchased in sales, some was gifts, and some swaps, and some samples..

So many lovelies to spin :) I am currently spinning some beautiful Southern Cross Fibre in Polwarth, a first for me!

A big thank you to N, and to Mandie for making it happen. What a wonderful surprise :)

  3. 2011 Personal Sock Club

    January 2, 2011 by sunrisesister

So it has been um.. brought to my attention that I own a bit of sock yarn. Ok, quite a bit of sock yarn. Perhaps around *whispers* 40 skeins of sock yarn. Ahem.

So I am declaring 2011 to be the year of stash busting! To help this along, I have created a personal sock club. 12 skeins of yarn, bagged up for a lucky dip, one for each month. I have chosen not to include patterns in with the yarn, because 1) I fall in and out of love with patterns on an hourly basis, and 2) I felt it a bit restrictive.

So much loveliness. EGMTK, Ixchel, Wollmeise, Patonyle 8ply, Regia, ms gusset, and Colinette Jitterbug. All delicious yarns!

Here they are, all bagged up, and even stapled shut! I may or may not be great when it comes to surprises.. heh.

And already, I have picked out my first instalment! A blue/green skein of EGMTK superwash merino/nylon, which are becoming Monkey socks. More on that another time, when they look interesting.

  4. Arwen, Modelled!

    January 2, 2011 by sunrisesister

A belated merry solstice, happy christmas and a very happy new year to you all! Boy, was I happy to give 2010 a kick in the pants as it left! I even managed to sneak in a last FO before the year was out; another licorice allsort cardi, but in a bigger size. The freaky weather here continues, hot, cold, and hot, and then cold again. But lots of rain, means our long and awful drought is OVER. Yes, officially.

It seems absurd to be dressing a baby in a knitted skirt and tights in SUMMER, but it was practically chilly yesterday, and I took the opportunity to try out my fabulous new IXUS camera. Here is the Arwen skirt, in the fleshy flesh!

Yes, that is an 11 month old, walking, running, talking, and flirting. She kills me.

  5. FO’s of 2010

    December 18, 2010 by sunrisesister

Well, the year is almost over, and it’s time to see what I made over the last 12 months!

    Mosaic

Looking at that, it doesn’t seem like much, but there are lots of big projects in there, like the Daybreak shawl, and my Kauni scarf. Lots of baby hats, and lots of cardigans! Bear in mind, I did have a baby in January, and lots of health issues this year, so that did eat into my knitting time!

I also got to sew some simple but very enjoyable things..

A doona cover for Tille, and a Marimekko sleeve for my iPad!

I released my first ever (free!) knitting pattern, and watched it be ‘favourited’ and knitted up by Ravelers :)

And 2010 saw a very happy return to the spinning wheel. I am in love. My fibre stash is growing, slowly, and I am saving up for a Majacraft wheel in the new year! Oh yes!

It’s been a great year, in creating and enjoying all things fibrey. Here is to lots more fun in 2011!
