  1. It's Hot

    November 19, 2009 by sunrisesister

It’s about 10 degrees hotter than it should be. And has been. And it’s not good. My brain has turned to mush, and has rendered me useless to the universe! Sure, we have a portable aircon, but step away from it’s cool stream of air, and I need to sit down again!

The kids dont like it, much, either..

There is relief on the way, I hear. And the radar shows lovely big splodges coming our way, but I will believe it when I see it! Even the cat has had enough, and has begun a new regime of napping, sleeping, napping some more, before a sleep. Upside down.

Or, under my belly, which is huge, but apparently very comfortable. A sort of Kitty-Shiatsu setup, if you like.

So apparently, we live in a ‘Bushfire Prone Area’ and the local schools are all on the ‘Red Warning Closure List’ – good thing I send my kids to a school 3 suburbs away, in a NON prone area! However, it does mean we have to have a Bushfire Plan, which even though we are only halfway thru re-writing, were told to ‘Activate’ that plan yesterday. Now, can I just point something out? It’s SPRING. We aren’t even in summer yet. We’ve just had record-smashing temperatures for November, and I am over it already!

Oh, our plan? It’s this: Buy a trailer. Pack trailer for camping. Have it sitting in the carport, ready to go. Have list of ESSENTIALS, that we pack the day before, and leave. Yup. Yellow-bellied cowardly LEAVING. This isnt my house, I wont stay to protect it. The plan is to Get out, find a friend’s garden, and camp. I’m no hero. Black Saturday sent that message home loud and clear.

    Anyway,

Knitting? Fail. Utter fail. Too hot to think. I have moments of motivation, and cast something on, only to realise that I am incapable of even a simple K2P2. I think we will leave that for the Too Hard Pile for now!

Blogging has taken a back seat, too. My computer is back to it’s optimal condition (no thanks to Apple) but it’s too hot to sit here and tap away in a dark room. It’s also really hard to post about anything interesting (ie, anything I WANT to post) without sharing personal information. Because my ex LOVES stalking me here, and other places, so I have to keep Mum on everything. Hi Wasband! if you are reading this, it’s time to go buy another cask of wine. You must be running low. I only say this, because only a true arsehole would wait until their ex wife is heavily pregnant, to ring up, threaten and abuse her and her partner, with things like ‘OMG I AM GOING TO BANKRUPT YOU’ – too late sunshine, you very nearly did. When I left you. Anyway, you can piss off, and eat a bag of.. anyway!

So while life is filled with exciting things like preparing for a birth, a baby, and christmas, and birthdays, and first lost tooths, and zoo visits, and friends, and work, and laughter, and food, and wonderful things, I cant say much. You’ll just have to take my word for it!

This is the FO I had to keep under wraps (kindof) until the weekend.. Kelli came up to stay while in Melb for a short visit, and I got to give her these:

They fit! I am VERY relieved. They are just what she wanted – 8ply, and machine washable..

Yarn: Handyed 8ply Machine Wash from the BWM back room.

And these are the LAST knitted gifts I am committing to for a long while, and DEFINITELY the last birthday socks ;)

  3. FO: seamonkies

So this is what I was knitting for zephyrama’s birthday gift!

Only, it was all going so well, and I was knitting furiously to finish them in the car on the way to Bendigo. Then I met her in person. And realised that #1 her feet are about HALF the size I had made, and #2 I was going to run out of yarn! So on the friday night, I ripped them back, and somehow managed to slot in some secret knitting at the pub dinner, then at home until 2am redoing the toe! It worked, and with the collaborative help of Kat, Darrow and the lovely Woolcraft lady, I finished them at the bloody show and got to hand them over!

seamonkies for zeph! seamonkies for zeph!
seamonkies for zeph! seamonkies for zeph!

But it was worth it.. they fit (phew) and she got her parcel finally :)

Pattern: Cookie A’s Monkey. Yarn: Colinette Jitterbug in Jay.

Great pattern! Just dont give yourself a heart attack like I did!

It’s FINALLY done! Boy oh boy, did that get tedious towards the end! But I was determined to get it done, even though I was starting to think ‘ew, this wont suit me, who can I gift it to?’ but TOUGH, I love it :)

  5. Perth

    June 7, 2009 by sunrisesister

This is the second surprise! The reason we had to keep Peanut a secret for just a wee while..

We went to Perth for the weekend! Flew over on Friday night, and came back on Sunday afternoon, totally exhausted! I dont think we really slept the whole time we were gone, but boy was it worth it! We went over to surprise N’s mum for her 60th birthday, so she had all 4 kids there! We didnt take our trio this time, they stayed behind with a friend for the weekend. It was very strange being so far away from them!

We woke up early on saturday and gave N’s ma her gifts from us, including a sneakily-added ultrasound picture to the back of a scrapbook. Took everyone a moment to realise, we got them a beauty! haha!

N and I got to spend a few hours zooming around Perth, taking some corny touristy photos and getting a feel for the place.

In short, Perth is stunning. The day we went out, it was warm, sunny, and not a cloud in the sky. I couldnt get over how QUIET it was! Melbourne on a saturday afternoon, with stocktake sales on, is PACKED. In Perth CBD, I didnt even spot a busy shop!

The buildings gave me a giggle – everything looks so NEW. Even the OLD buildings are new! Beautiful, though, and the roads are lined with palm trees and clean roads. We drove down to the edge of the Swan River, and breathed in a gorgeous few lungfuls of amazing sea air.

We then trekked around the beautiful Kings Park for a while, and sat down for a cuppa overlooking a lovely view of the city..

    IMG_3384 IMG_3383 IMG_3376 IMG_3357 IMG_3356 IMG_3358

We walked down to the State War Memorial, and had a look around.

We then headed back ‘home’ and got ready for a huuuge family dinner. 27 people all from the same clan was overwhelming to say the least! But I think we coped, and it was great to share our exciting news with everyone. Pics of those will get uploaded to the family blog later on :) It was awesome to finally meet all the family, and to spend at least a little time with them.

We are home now, exhausted, but enjoying the long weekend.
