  2. Off The Wagon

    August 30, 2009 by sunrisesister

So clearly the diet wasn’t enough for me, I think I may need some kind of 12 step program or something. But in my defence, I will say three things:

    * We were shopping in a group. This means peer pressure. Also, shopping in the Wool Village means that you are constantly followed and questioned on your choice of yarn.. so there is an element of urgency about the ‘grab and buy, quick!’ feel of the place. Crazy lady wasn’t there, though. That was ok.

    * I spent UNDER $50.

    * The cotton I bought was in the bargain bin, and it was $2 each. And it’s cotton. And it’s discontinued.

    * The Regia sock yarn is about 1/2 the price than it is elsewhere. So really, it’s like I had to.

8Ply Blu Caribe. This wants to be summer baby/girls things. I bought 4 balls of it..

2 Balls each of the Kafe Faussett Regia Designer sock yarn. Look at the colours, people. Loooooook.

So yes, I might have a bit of this stashed.. yes.

Uh….. did someone say ‘They tried to make me go to rehab.. i said NOOO NOOO NOO!’

  3. 40 Hour Famine – Completed

    August 30, 2009 by sunrisesister

Well, Miss E (also known as The Jungle Girl) finally did her ‘Famine Weekend’ and although it coincided with netball and friends visiting etc etc, she did VERY well. She spent her electricity free days doing crafts like knitting, sewing by hand, making clay beads, as well as reading, whinging and complaining.. ok that last bit wasn’t so fun! She also did a famine from ‘junk food’ but her electricity famine meant she couldn’t eat anything that had been cooked or refrigerated. So she REALLY enjoyed her breakfast this morning ;)

And she is proud to announce that she has raised over $230!!

Thank you to ALL who have donated.. she has managed to go above and beyond her original goal of $100!

Remember, if you still wish to donate, she is collecting until the end of September.. You can click here to do it online :)

It was also a very interesting exercise to see how reliant these kids ARE on electricity for entertainment.. Especially in these Winter months.

  4. UGH: Ishbel

    August 30, 2009 by sunrisesister

Not even a few hours after I posted about starting Ishbel, I had to frog it. 5 rows into the lace, and it was 8 stitches off, and looked like barf. So it’s gone. Why?

    * I am a compulsive frogger. Not happy? RIIIIP!
    * I faced facts – I need to NOT inflict lace knitting on my already fragile pregnant brain..
    * That whole ‘needle size down’ issue was haunting me.

So next year, maybe. Until then, I have some simple knitting for simple minds on the go.. a Milo vest for Maya, size 4, upsized slightly with 10ply and 4.5 needles. This is what I needed… therapeutic knitting, with my favourite yarn, and something quick and easy.

    Maya's Milo

And yes, Maya IS little miss sunshine to me :)

  5. FO: Kelli's Socks

    August 30, 2009 by sunrisesister

This is the FO I had to keep under wraps (kindof) until the weekend.. Kelli came up to stay while in Melb for a short visit, and I got to give her these:

They fit! I am VERY relieved. They are just what she wanted – 8ply, and machine washable..

Yarn: Handyed 8ply Machine Wash from the BWM back room.

    Needle: 3.75 KP Harmony DPN’s

And these are the LAST knitted gifts I am committing to for a long while, and DEFINITELY the last birthday socks ;)
