  1. The Toy Society

    December 30, 2008 by sunrisesister

It’s always heaps of fun to make a gift for someone, even more so for a stranger, or someone you dont know IRL. It’s like sending out good karma. Who doesn’t love receiving a handmade toy?!

Kelli sent me a link to the toy society, where members make a small toy, and ‘drop’ it somewhere in public, with a tag and note from the maker. An unsuspecting person finds it, and rehomes it, and reports back to the blog.

So I got to thinking, this could seriously fuel my Amigurumi obsession! I *did* end up getting that seriously cute book (and some yarn!) so I am looking forward to printing out my tags, and making a toy to drop somewhere. I could even get the kids making some little things!

  2. Shiny Things & Treasures

    December 28, 2008 by sunrisesister

My gran is a sneaky ole thing. When they were visiting, she thrust this bag into my hands, and said they were ‘just some treasures of yours’ and that I should have them. In the bag was…

The copy of The Secret Garden that I read as a child. This one will have to be kept out of reach of the little two – they are still destructive with books occasionally.

An old China Tea box, filled with photos, and this little box

Tottie/Totty was my childhood nickname. HAR HAR HAR yes I hear you laugh. That little box and doll was sent to me as a young child from my Great Aunt Helen, who has since sadly passed away.

And lots of great photos. Some of which I had never seen before. I am going to make it a priority to get these (and my others) into albums at some point soon.

And then, on Christmas day, just when the family were about to leave, she presents me with this. Given to her by my grandpa many yonks ago, and now passed down to me! Very proud, and far too scared to wear it, ever.

I do have some old HK photos scanned in, but only a fraction of what I have now. I will get some more done, and upload them sometime soon.

  3. Knittables and Crochetables

    December 27, 2008 by sunrisesister

I got such a kick out of seeing this… I got Kay (Duckedout) as my Kris Kringle swapee in our Stitch n Bitch group. She has been away alot lately, staying with her mum who has had a terrible time with cancer. Last I heard, it looked like things were bad, but I havent heard the latest. I got the chance to give her gift to her daughter, Emma (Who, is an Amigurumi whizz!) and then I spotted this on ravelry..

I had given her (amoungst lots of goodies!) a skein of hand dyed Bendigo yarn from our dyeing day. I wasnt sure what she’d like, but we had sat and chatted about Bendigo yarn the week previous, when she mentioned she was making something with Bendy yarn from the 80′s. She made a beautiful basketweave scarf, and I am so stoked to see she enjoyed it.

Now, from our SnB Xmas party the other week, I didnt get a chance to post about what I got from the lovely Lucy. She had crocheted me some beautiful xmas shapes, as well as this WONDERFUL fan bookmark. She threw in a light-up-hook and some gorgeous hand made crochet markers, and boy did I feel spoilt! The whole lot was packaged up in a project bag that she had made also. I am SO blessed. The bookmark has been wedged in my current read from then on.

I LOVE the Stitch n Bitch ladies. They have all made the last 6 months so much fun, and I look forward to seeing each of them each week. We have shared so many laughs, and each meet is full of plans and excitement for more to come. It wont be the same when Kelli moves away in Jan, but I am already plotting an excuse to go and visit Tassie on the boat once she is settled ;)

  4. Christmas Knitting

    December 27, 2008 by sunrisesister

In all of that, somehow, I managed to knit a shrug. This was MEANT to be for me, but it became pretty apparent that I would have to lose 3/4 of my body weight for that to happen. But I finished it today, while having a kid-free lazy day on the couch, and it fit’s Maya a treat.

    Warning, very tired and reluctant model ahead;

I still want one for me, but I might wait until things have settled down fully, before starting on something new.
